How I test & score →

Notion AI is a different kind of entry on this list. It is not a standalone writing app — it is AI baked directly into the Notion workspace millions already use for notes, docs, and projects. We tested it to answer one question: is the convenience of writing where your work already lives worth choosing it over a dedicated tool? Short answer: if you live in Notion, yes; if you do not, no.

What is Notion AI?

Notion AI is an add-on that brings drafting, summarizing, rewriting, and Q&A into Notion pages. Instead of switching to a separate writer, you invoke it inline wherever your content already sits. It is aimed at teams and individuals whose docs, notes, and wikis are already in Notion.

What Notion AI does well

Zero context-switching

This is the whole point. Drafting, summarizing, and rewriting happen inside the doc you are already in, which removes the copy-paste tax entirely. For Notion users, that convenience is genuinely valuable.

Working with your own content

Because it can read the pages around it, Notion AI is excellent at summarizing meeting notes, turning bullet points into prose, and answering questions about your own workspace — things a standalone writer cannot do.

Simple, integrated pricing

As an add-on to a tool you may already pay for, it avoids adding yet another separate subscription and login.

Where it falls short

As a pure writing tool it trails the specialists. There is no dedicated brand-voice engine, no SEO workflow, and long-form marketing output is good-not-great compared to Jasper or Writesonic. And the obvious catch: if you are not already a Notion user, adopting the whole workspace just for its AI makes little sense.

Notion AI hands-on: how it performed for us

For turning rough notes into a clean draft, summarizing long documents, and rewriting passages, Notion AI was genuinely useful and fast. On a from-scratch 1,200-word marketing article, though, the output was competent but generic, without the polish or structure control of a dedicated writer. It is a superb assistant for content that starts inside Notion, and a mediocre choice for standalone marketing copy.

Notion AI pricing

Notion AI is an add-on to a Notion plan, priced at roughly $8–$10 per member per month on top of your existing subscription. If you already pay for Notion, it is a small, sensible add. If you do not use Notion at all, the true cost is adopting the whole platform — which only makes sense if you want the workspace anyway.

Who should (and shouldn’t) use Notion AI

Buy it if your notes, docs, and projects already live in Notion and you want AI drafting and summarizing without leaving.

Skip it if you need a dedicated writer for marketing content — Jasper or Writesonic are far stronger there.

Notion AI alternatives

  • Jasper — for serious long-form and brand voice. Review.
  • Writesonic — better standalone value. Review.
